PGE Publishing Announces the Release of a New Novel by Author A.D. Smith

Ellensburg, WA — September 18, 2005

PGE Publishing of Ellensburg, WA. announces author A.D. Smith’s novel entitled “The Prophesy of Arden.” Written originally while attending Central Washington University in 1978, Mr. Smith has brought his most cherished story to life in his third published novel.

Although the story is classified as science fiction, in reality the wonderful characters and twisting plot is actually set in a pre-industrial era.

After the first comers had visited Arden, they left various volumes of wisdom which was directly responsible for the formation of the planet’s primary religion and a prophesy where three children were to be born during the conjunction of Arden’s two moons.

The story begins at the birth of three siblings in Gao during such a conjunction. Protected for eighty seasons, the three subjects are instructed to set out in separate directions with different purposes. If their quests are successful, Arden’s population would be granted thousands of seasons of bliss and good fortune.

But Stylock, the purported reincarnated “flame of the Scablands,” plans to pit his army against them.

The novel is three marvelous interwoven stories of three heroes as they press forward to fulfill their destinies.

PlayAir – a case study

From July 1st to August 16th 2010, Australians were asked to buy an air instrument and record their best air moves in a national fundraising campaign to help charity organisation, The Song Room, deliver vital music & arts education and development programs for more than 20000 disadvantaged children each week. “Air instruments” sold nationally in partner outlets JB HiFi, Allans Music, Spotlight and other independent stores, an interactive website, an online competition, outdoor publicity stunts and a savvy media strategy all formed part of this innovative, interwoven campaign designed by BADJAR Ogilvy, Yello Brands and DTDigital. With celebrity endorsement from Dylan Lewis and Mark Holden, the campaign aimed to highlight the huge number of children from disadvantaged and marginalized communities who have little or no access to music or art programs and materials despite the significant benefits that such programs provide.

HELP for Teachers wanting to become ESL and Bilingual Certified

Groves, TX — October 26, 2005

The ELL population is now the fastest growing K-12 population and the U.S. School districts in Texas were unable to fill 26% of open secondary bilingual/ESL positions and reported a shortage of 2,906 teachers in the elementary bilingual/ESL area for the 2001-2002 school year (Texas A&M University, 2002). Federal laws mandate that public schools provide Bilingual and ESL (English as a Second Language) teachers for students who do not have English as their primary language. In general, the law states that if a school district has 20 or more students who speak a common foreign language, the ISD must provide Bilingual teachers in that foreign language as well as ESL teachers. The highest number of English Language Learners speak Spanish (79%). However the laws apply to any language in the world. Some of the other ELLs are Vietnamese (2%), Hmong (1.6%), and those at about 1%: Chinese, Korean, Haitian Creole, Arabic, and Russian.

Bilingual teachers teach using both English and the student’s primary language. ESL teachers teach using only English. Students are placed in a Bilingual or ESL classroom depending on the programs available in the district. In both cases, the teachers are trained to recognize the value of the student’s own culture and heritage. These specially trained teachers are specifically trained in second language acquisition theory, methods and strategies.

The big problem for the school districts that are affected by these laws is the lack of certified ESL and Bilingual teachers.

The need for certified ESL and Bilingual teachers is far ahead of the ability of universities and colleges to produce ESL and Bilingual qualified teachers. Universities would like to add more Bilingual and ESL classes, but there is a shortage of trained personnel in the fields of ESL and Bilingual teaching. Many universities do not have certified personnel and are not able to provide training in the areas of ESL and Bilingual teaching.

For the first time ever, there are now multi-faceted products available for teachers who want to become ESL and Bilingual certified. These products can be used by individuals to prepare for certification tests through the self-paced six-week program. The materials are also available at significant discounts to educational institutions who would like to use the multi-faceted materials to prepare groups of students for successful ESL and Bilingual certification testing. These institutions include independent school districts, education service centers (Regions), universities and colleges, and private organizations.

Although these products were specifically designed for the Texas certification exams (#102 & #154), they are universal in nature and will help any student, in any state, pass their ESL and Bilingual teacher certification exams. To find out more about these products visit www.eslmaster.net, www.bilingualmaster.net or www.texes.net

Any qualified teacher or university professor can use these materials to help a class of students pass the ESL and Bilingual teacher certification examinations. These HELP, Inc. study aids have all the information necessary to help teachers pass the ESL and Bilingual teacher certification examinations. HELP, Inc. has helped thousands of teachers pass their pedagogy teacher certification exams over the past 10 years.

The ESL and Bilingual products are the only multi-faceted products available. They feature DVD presentations, full-length practice examinations with complete descriptions about which answer is correct and why, and in most cases a discussion about why the other answers are incorrect. Each product has a set of test-specific color-coded flash cards with the information needed to become an effective Bilingual and/or ESL teacher. The information will also enable the teacher to excel in their respective exams. Each product also has a handy pocket-sized booklet with reference material. This booklet is designed so that the student can keep it with them (in pocket or purse) for quick reference during the 6-week preparation period.

Dr. Perry K Haley-Brown is one of the few truly qualified ESL and Bilingual teaching experts (her extensive lists of accomplishments in these areas are listed on the web sites). Dr. Haley-Brown is featured on each of the DVD presentations. The presentations are full of pertinent information. That is why it is recommended that students watch the DVD once each week during the 6-week preparation course, for a total of six viewings. This is part of the unique multi-faceted approach. Watch and hear this information on the DVD over and over, each time putting more and more information to permanent memory. During the same period the student is studying the flash cards with similar information. Reference to additional online resources are also included in the study aids. Each of these different resources gives the student a little different look and the resources become interwoven such that the sum (the student’s working memory) becomes greater than the parts (the TExES Master DVD, the flash cards, the Manual, etc.)

These ESL and Bilingual products are produced by HELP, Inc., the same company that has offered teacher certification products over the past 10 years. These products are: TExES Master EC-4 Generalist, TExES Master PPR EC-4, TExES Master PPR 4-12.

The TExES products are authored by Dr. Sandra Luna McCune, test preparation expert and math specialist in the Department of Elementary Education at Stephen F. Austin State University in Nacogdoches, Texas. She is a nationally recognized author of teacher education test preparation review materials. Dr. McCune has earned the Stephen F. Austin University title of Regents Professor, the highest honor bestowed by the university. More can be learned. Learn more about these products at www.texes.net

Whitehill Technologies Experiences Record Growth in 2005

Moncton, NB, Canada — February 15, 2006

Whitehill Technologies, Inc. today announced that the company experienced record growth in 2005, with a prestigious new list of clients, business partnerships, awards and product innovations.

“Our record success is proof that our corporate philosophy is working,” said Paul McSpurren, President and CEO, Whitehill Technologies, Inc. “We’ve always been focused on innovation, customer satisfaction and business performance, and that focus continues to pay off.”

Over the last six consecutive quarters, Whitehill has averaged double-digit year-over-year revenue growth. Revenue for the most recently completed quarter was up 30 per cent over 2004, with EBITDA almost tripling for the same period.

Prestigious new client wins

Last month, Whitehill announced its relationship with The Hanover Group, one of the top 35 property and casualty carriers in the U.S., helping Hanover convert its policy documents to electronic format. “Whitehill’s role in the project was multi-tiered and we had a hard deadline to meet,” said Mike Clifton, Vice President, IT, The Hanover Insurance Group. “Whitehill’s solutions helped us meet that deadline, letting The Hanover serve our agents better by providing them with easy-to-use online access to policy documents.”

In December, Whitehill won a contract with Strickland Insurance Group (SIG), a P&C carrier which wrote approximately 0 million in direct billed premiums last year. SIG has over 2,000 independent agents in North Carolina, and works through general agencies in 41 other states. Other new clients include Access General Insurance, a leading provider of turn-key P&C insurance programs, and WEA Trust, a not-for-profit benefits provider for Wisconsin public school employees.

Whitehill also built on its strength in the legal vertical, winning contracts with four major legal clients: DLA Piper Marbury, one of the largest firms in the world with over 5,500 attorneys; Morrison & Foerster; Holland & Knight; and Schiff Hardin. “Our team was able to win these deals by working closely with leading industry partners such as Thomson Elite,” said McSpurren.

New business partnerships

In March, Whitehill became a member of the ImageRight Business Alliance. Designed especially for insurance companies, ImageRight is used throughout the industry to manage documents, workflow, and information.

“We’re happy to be working with Whitehill to help bring more value to our customers,” said Don Elias, co-founder and principal of ImageRight. “Whitehill’s cross-format functionality will help our joint customers process even obscure document types and manage multiple legacy formats.”

In May, Whitehill announced an OEM reseller agreement with CA Inc., offering Whitehill’s suite of document composition and data transformation software to CA customers under the CA brand name. In November, Whitehill achieved Advanced Partner status in the IBM strategic partner program. This prestigious partnership with one of the world’s largest companies gives Whitehill access to a unique set of partner benefits, such as technology certifications, joint solution planning, marketing, promotions and lead generation activities.

Acquisitions and product releases

In May, Whitehill acquired the technology assets of Metaserver, Inc., including a patented suite of business process integration (BPI) offerings. The Java-based platform is a proven technology in the insurance sector, where carriers and their agents use it to exchange quotes, claims and other critical business information in real time and at half the cost of traditional approaches.

Last month, Whitehill expanded its BPI technology into the legal market with the launch of Whitehill BPI for Legal. Other new product launches included Whitehill Layout Designer, an easy-to-use graphical interface for creating XML stylesheets.

Seven major awards and accolades

In March, prominent analyst firm Celent named Whitehill as a leader among insurance technology vendors. In a separate report, Celent identified Whitehill as one of 31 vendors offering the best sales experience in the insurance market. Strong vendors are those who demonstrate a deep understanding of the industry and the business problems their clients are facing, according to Matthew Josefowicz, Group Manager, Insurance, Celent. The best vendors give their customers “something to talk about by focusing on outstanding quality, support, and service for current customers—an experience so good that they look smart for choosing the solution in the first place.”

In May, Progress magazine named Whitehill the best software company to work for in Atlantic Canada, ranking it number 4 overall on its list of the best employers in the region.

That same month, Atlantic Business magazine named Whitehill’s president and CEO, Paul McSpurren, one of the top 50 CEOs in Atlantic Canada. And Whitehill received two prestigious export awards: the Canadian Manufacturers and Exporters’ “Export Achievement” award, and the New Brunswick Knowledge Industry Recognition Award for Exporting Services.

The company also ranked as the 20th largest privately owned software company in Canada on the Branham 300, a listing of the top 300 technology companies in the country, according to revenue.

14% employment growth

“Our success over the past year is a great tribute to the terrific team we have here at Whitehill,” said McSpurren. “Our policy of hiring only the best and the brightest employees continued this year, and it has certainly paid off.” Whitehill’s staffing grew by 14% in 2005, with the creation of 20 new full-time positions.

“This has been a tremendous year for us, and we plan to continue building on our record success all through 2006.”

SIUE’s Xfest Brings Theater Companies from Both Coasts to Campus

Edwardsvillle, Ill. (Vocus) April 30, 2010

Southern Illinois University Edwardsville’s first experimental theater festival, Xfest , will bring an exciting array of talent to campus Wednesday-Saturday, May 12-15. The Xfest is planned as a festival of theatrical experimentation, often described as a presentation of innovative works as well as the development of new concepts and techniques in stage production.

Four theater companies from SIUE, Seattle and New York City will perform over four nights in SIUE’s James F. Metcalf Theater, unless otherwise noted:

7:30 p.m. Wednesday, May 12—Whammy!! The Seven Secrets to a Sane Self will be performed by members of the SIUE Theatre 310b class—Oprah Winfrey and Ethel Merman. Dr. Phil and Phil Silvers, Nietzche and The Shirelles? The artistic team that brought you The Probe: An Inquiry Into the Meteoric Rise and Spectacular Fall of Orson Welles in Hollywood rides again in this madcap multi-media dance-theatre comic exploration of self-help, sexual dysfunction, 1960s dance parties, obsessive-compulsive disorder, pharmaceutical bliss and suicide. Want to know the seven secrets to a sane self? You know you do. And there’s only one way to find out. Dig?

7:30 p.m. Thursday, May 13—”[ ]” will be performed by Red Metal Mailbox, a New York-based company—When you try to define something important—capture it, pin it down—it simply shifts out of view. You can only see it properly if you don’t look at it straight on. You have to squint a little. Look at it sideways. You see it in a flash of understanding and then it’s gone, and you spend the rest of your life trying to remember what it was. Hailed by the New York Times as “fabulously strange, delicious, engaging and nuanced,” Red Metal Mailbox’s newest work premiered at The Chocolate Factory Theater in New York City in the spring 2009.

Red Metal Mailbox is a New York City based company that creates investigative performance. Their work has been presented at The Public Theater (365 Days/365 Plays), The Chocolate Factory Theater, Dixon Place, P.S. 122′s Homeroom, Dance Theater Workshop’s 40Forward, and Galapagos Art Space among other venues in New York City, as well as at the Philadelphia Fringe Festival and the Metcalf Experimental Theater at Southern Illinois University Edwardsville. Artistic director Sarah Maxfield is a graduate of the SIUE Department of Theatre and Dance.

7:30 p.m. Friday, May 14—The Medicine Showdown by The Flying Carpet Theatre Co., a New York-based company—Set in small-town Georgia during the 1918 global influenza pandemic, this original work pits a crusading doctor against an entourage of “snake oil” salesmen. Public health seems at odds with the town’s economic interests as civic leaders debate shutting down all public gatherings—including the popular and lucrative local medicine show. Interwoven with the realistic play (inspired by Henrik Ibsen’s classic Enemy of the People) are scenes from a period medicine show, complete with tap dance, old time melodrama, country music and vaudeville style comedy.

Based in New York City, The Flying Carpet Theatre (FCT) creates work that fuses vaudeville style entertainment—mime, circus, conjuring, puppetry, dance and clowning. With a special eye toward nurturing new bold voices, the FCT has introduced several important artists to New York. For its inaugural production, FCT presented 1001 Nights, an original musical by Robert Lopez who went on to win the Tony Award for Avenue Q and then followed with a mime and magic show called The Dancing Handkerchief, of which the New York Times raved, “you will fall under its spell.”

7:30 p.m. Saturday, May 15—Zen Tales by UMO Ensemble from Seattle, in the theater at SIUE’s Katherine Dunham Hall—During the past 23 years, UMO Ensemble has become known as one of the most innovative, compelling and critically acclaimed performance companies based in the Pacific Northwest. The ensemble has performed throughout the United States, Canada and Europe. As its mission, the UMO Ensemble is dedicated to “providing awe, challenge and inspiration” to theater audiences. The group will not disappoint as they take the Arts & Issues stage in SIUE’s Katherine Dunham Hall with their irreverent approach to Zen: share the experience of the red nose monk clowns tackling ancient Buddhist, Zen and Sufi stories through mask, puppetry, live music and laughter.

Talk back sessions will be conducted following each performance, with directors and cast members fielding audience questions. Xfest workshops on campus will be open to the public and students. For more information, visit the website: siue.edu/xfest , or call the SIUE Department of Theater and Dance , (618) 650-5614.
