The Big Guns Are Going for Emerging Markets: CDC Software Acquires Beijing’s Vitova ECM

Last month, CDC Software outlined a term sheet to acquire up to 51% of enterprise content management vendor Vitova, and they announced today that the sheet had been completed. Vitova is based in Hong Kong, and as part of the terms, CDC has a right of first refusal to acquire Unis Vitova, which is the company’s Beijing-based affiliate that provides records archive management software.

There are still some closing conditions to be fulfilled, but when they are completed, Vitova’s branding will change. CDC will resell Vitova products under the brand CDC DMS, and CDC will be looking for cross-selling opportunities. Vitova will also integrate its document management system software with CDC’s Ross, ERP, Supply Chain, and Pivotal CRM, as well as CDC’s senior human resource management solutions.

And, because we live in a post-2009 world, CDC will launch the Vitova solutions as a SaaS model. While the name “Vitova” may not have much resonance in the US, they are well esteemed in other parts of the world. Microsoft Hong Kong recently named them “Best ISV of the Year”—an award given for partner success—and the acquisition will represent a significant extension of CDC’s global footprint.
